The climate of Asahikawa (Japan)
Asahikawa is located in the centre of the island Hakkaido. The city is
famous for its Zoo. The unique living spaces of the animals make this
zoo special. For instance there is a polar bear water park, a
walkthrough penguin aquarium and an orangutan trapeze. This way
visitors can see the animals from a different perspective. The city
has become an important trade centre because many waterways flow
through the city. Asahikawa has 740 bridges.
Asahikawa has a dry land climate. The city has dry summers and fairly
dry winters. Wintry precipitation often falls in the form of snow.
During the autumn differences in air pressure are not uncommon. These
differences can cause hurricanes in October (Taifoons). Temperatures
in both summer and winter can get extreme. During the summer
temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius have been recorded in the past.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but dont present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures dont always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
