The climate of Sendai (Japan)
Sendai is located in the northern part of the island of Honsu in the
shadow of the Ou-mountain range. The city was founded in 1600 and owes
its existence to the feudal overlords that ruled in that time, the
so-called Date Masamune. Most tourist attractions are from this time.
Several temples, castles and mausoleums can be visited. ‘Downtown’
Sendai is ideal for shopping.
Although the northern part of Japan’s weather is strongly influenced
by the supply of cold air from the mainland Sendai lies in the shelter
of the mountains. Because of this temperatures are a little higher
here than other places located at an equal altitude. Sendai has a
moderate sea climate. Rain falls all year round. Summers may be clammy
and most of the rain falls during the autumn. There is a risk of
typhoons and floods in Sendai.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
