The climate of Nairobi (Kenya)
Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and is located in the interior at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Nairobi is a relatively young city, the city was founded in 1899. Only six years later it was designated capital of Kenya. An absolute low in the history of Nairobi was the bombing of the American embassy in 1998. Nairobi has a subtropical highland climate. According to the Köppen climate classification this climate type shows a strong resemblance to a warm maritime climate. Temperatures are constant all year round. Nairobi has two distinct wet periods, one during spring and one during fall. The local winter is the driest and the coldest period.
