The climate of Vientiane (Laos)
Vientiane is the capital of Laos and is located on the banks of the
Mekong River. The name of the city is derived from the time when the
French pronounced the name Wiang Chan (as the city is known locally)
as Vientiane. Vientiane has a tropical savannah climate with warm and
dry winters and a rainy season from May till October. From November
precipitation figures, humidity figures and temperatures start to
decrease causing it to feel much more pleasant in this tropical city.
Vientiane gets about 1,660 millimeters of annual precipitation. During
the driest months (December and January) only 10 millimeters of rain
per month can be recorded.
