The climate of Gozo (Malta)
Gozo is the second largest island of Malta. It is situated 5
kilometers north west of the main island. Gozo’s capital is Victoria.
Most people see Gozo as a more authentic island than the island of
Malta itself. However, nowadays the main source of income for Gozo is
tourism which harms this image. The island can be reached by ferry
that sails from Cirkewwa to the small seaside resort of Mgarr. The
other source of income beside tourism is agriculture. The wines that
originate from this island are of a remarkably high standard. The
church of Ta’Pinu is a popular place of pilgrimage on the island.
Just like other parts of Malta Gozo has a warm Mediterranean climate
with warm and dry summers and mild and wet winters. During the summer
temperatures may rise but the ever present sea wind is responsible for
a pleasant and cooling breeze. During the winter months precipitation
figures are much higher than during the summer. Humidity figures also
rise because of this. In general Gozo is fractionally colder, is
windier and gets a little more precipitation than other parts of
Malta. Gozo is a little greener as well.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
