The climate of Daru (Papua New Guinea)
Daru is an island off the south coast of Papua New Guinea in the
province of Western. Daru is located near the place where the River
Fly flows into the Gulf of Papua. Daru is located in the vicinity of
the Torres Straight which separates Papua New Guinea from Australia.
About half of the island consists of the city of Daru with the
airport. The island is very popular among fishermen, several unique
fish species can be caught here, which you can put on the barbecue
right after catching them. Daru has a tropical monsoon climate with
one distinct rainy period from November till the beginning of June.
The rest of the year Daru gets far less rain than other places in
Papua New Guinea. Temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius all year
round. During the monsoon periods humidity figures are reasonably
high. However, the ever blowing sea wind offers some cooling.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
