The climate of Ribeira Brava (Portugal)
Ribeira Brava is a small city located in the southern part of the main
island Madeira in the autonomous region Madeira. The Ribeira Brava
River flows through the city, this river is also known as the angry
river. The city was built at the foot of a hill ridge. The main source
of income is fishing and agriculture and to a lesser degree tourism.
Ribeira Brava has a warm maritime climate also referred to as a
subtropical climate. Just like in the rest of Madeira the climate of
Ribeira Brava is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Because of
this extremes in weather are uncommon here. However, when a socalled
Leste wind supplies dry and warm air from the African continent
temperatures may rise above 30 degrees Celsius. Ribeira Brava gets
about 600 millimeters of annual precipitation, most of which falls
during the winter.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
