The climate of Santana (Portugal)
Santana is located in the northeastern part of the main island Madeira
in the autonomous region of Madeira. The village is located in the
vicinity of Funchal. The village is known for its beautiful triangular
shaped fishing houses with their thatched roofs locally known as Casa
del Colmo. These house could be found all over Madeira, nowadays you
can only find them in Santana. Nowadays the houses are used as an
accommodation for tourists. The cable way Rocha do Nevio Teleférico
can be found in the vicinity of the village. Santana has a warm
maritime climate also referred to as a subtropical climate. However,
this appellation is not referred to in the Köppen climate
classification. Just like in the rest of Madeira the climate of
Santana is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. However, when a
so called Leste wind supplies dry and warm air from the African
continent temperatures may rise above 30 degrees Celsius.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
