The climate of Bakel (Senegal)
Bakel is located in the northeastern part of Senegal on the banks of
the Senegal River which forms the border with Mauretania here. Bakel
is also located in the vicinity of the border with Mali. From here you
can take a ferry to Gouray, which is located in Mauretania. Bakel is
located in the Tambacounda region. The city is situated in the Sahel
which is a belt that stretches out from east to west, south of the
equator. Bakel has its own airport. Bakel has a warm steppe climate
with one short rainy period form June till September. Average daytime
temperatures are fairly high, peaks up to 50 degrees Celsius (122
degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon. During the wet period this
causes high humidity figures. During the drier months a Harmattan wind
may blow. This type of wind supplies dry and dusty air and may have a
cooling influence.
