The climate of Ziguinchor (Senegal)
Ziguinchor is located in the southwestern part of Senegal on the banks
of the Casamance River. Ziguinchor is located in the Ziguinchor
district of which it also is the capital. The city is located in the
vicinity of the border with Guinea-Bissau. Gambia, which is surrounded
by Senegal is also in the vicinity. Ziguinchor was founded in 1645 by
the Portuguese. West of the city Cap Skirring can be found, which is
very popular among tourists.
Ziguinchor has a tropical savannah climate with one distinct rainy
period from June till October. Especially in August and September
precipitation figures may be high. Average daytime temperatures are 30
degrees Celsius (86.0 degrees Fahrenheit) all year round. However,
peaks of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon.
From November till April a Harmattan wind may blow. This type of wind
supplies dry and dusty air from the Sahara.
