The climate of Michigan (United
States of America)
The state of Michigan is located in the northwestern part of the
United States. The landscape of Michigan is mainly determined by lakes
such as Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. In total, the
state of Michigan consists of water for 41.5%. Michigan consists of
two peninsulas. The lower peninsula has always been the heart of the
American automobile industry. Especially the economy of Detroit
depends on the production of cars. This is also why
Detroit is also
known as Motor City. The lower peninsula has a warm continental
climate (type Dfa). The upper peninsula has a moderate continental
climate (type Dfb). Winters are fairly cool and summers are warm on
both peninsulas. However, on the upper peninsula temperatures are
slightly lower than in the southern part of Michigan. From December
till February daytime temperatures in the city of Hancock are below
freezing point. During the night it may get really cold. Winters in
the southeastern part of Michigan may be cold as well. However, in
general winters are milder here.

can often not be found in these tables. This is why we offer extra
