The climate of Leeds (England)
Leeds is a town in the northern part of England located on the bank of
the river Aire. During the 14th century it was an important center for
the wool trade. During the 19th century it became an important
industrial town. Especially because canals and railroads where built.
After WWII Leeds more and more became a town of social services
instead of industry. Nowadays Leeds is known for its university and
the fact that it has several hospitals. Leeds has a sea climate. This
type of climate has four distinct seasons. Winters are mild with
temperatures well above freezing point. Although Leeds gets some
frosty days, longer periods of subzero temperatures are uncommon.
Spring is usually quite sunny. From April temperatures will start to
rise. During the summer temperatures are around 20 degrees Celsius on
average. During autumn storms are not uncommon; these storms are
caused by the warm sea air. Just as in other parts of England rainfall
is evenly spread out over the year.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
